The Everyday Journey of Heart and Mind
Composed by the twelfth century Tibetan Buddhist master Geshe Chekawa, the theme of “The Seven-Point Mind-Training” is developing and employing our compassion and wisdom in every aspect of our daily lives. Step-by-step it shows us how to train our hearts and minds to embrace the world in more caring and understanding ways and offers us practical guide-lines for transforming adversity and hardship into opportunities for growth. Rather than perceiving difficult people and adverse conditions in our lives as an obstacle, tragedy, or punishment, we learn how to meet these experiences in more wholesome, compassionate and wise ways.
The remarkable feature of “Mind-Training” is that it is especially well-suited for an active life. It does not require that we withdraw into seclusion, but that in the ordinary situations of daily life we examine how we are relating to others and viewing our world. Out of this, we naturally begin to respond more skilfully to whatever life throws our way. Fundamentally, “The Seven-Point Mind-Training” is about how we can use the journey of our everyday lives as a path to awaken our hearts and minds |
