Buddhism in a Nutshell is an introductory course that provides a general overview of basic Buddhist philosophy and principles for complete beginners.   This course assumes that those who attend are interested in learning something about Buddhism in its various forms and may find the Tibetan Mahayana context appealing.

Course Dates:
Commencing Thursday 28th January 2010 for 5 weeks.  28/1, 4/2, 11/2. 18/2 & 25/2/2010 7pm-8.30pm
Cost:
$75 for 5 weeks includes all handouts, tea & coffee after class.

Course Outline:

Buddhism in a Nutshell covers the following topics:

  • A little History of Buddhism
  • The Life of Shakyamuni Buddha
  • The different kinds of Buddhism: Theravadan, Mahayana, Vajrayana, Zen, etc.
  • The different schools of Tibetan Buddhism: Gelug, Kagyu, Sakya, Nyingma
  • How the Buddha answered the big "meaning of life" questions that we all have
  • The Four Noble Truths
  • Buddha’s teachings in a gradual form for the practice of one individual  
  • What does it mean to be a Buddhist
